What is the difference between hot wax and strip wax?
Hot wax is specially designed for delicate and sensitive areas. Applied in a thicker layer and removed once cooled, it offers a gentler treatment that minimises skin irritation, hair breakage and ingrown hairs.
Strip wax is applied more thinly and removed with a paper strip, making it ideal for larger areas with finer hair growth.
Why is Lycon wax a less painful treatment?
A specially formulated treatment oil is applied to the area before waxing to create a protective barrier over the skin.
This allows the wax to adhere to the hair rather than the skin, effectively “shrink-wrapping” around the hair and minimising discomfort during removal.
Can I still have a bikini wax if I am on my period?
This is not a problem. Please ensure you apply a fresh tampon before your treatment and make sure the string is tucked in for discretion.
Is it painful?
Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but most clients find that waxing becomes less uncomfortable over time as hair regrowth becomes finer.
At Waxing With Michelle, we use an elite wax system designed to minimise discomfort, paired with professional technique for the most gentle and efficient treatment possible.
How long will areas be hair free for?
It’s normal to notice a small amount of regrowth after the first waxing treatment.
Hair growth patterns vary, but it typically takes around four consecutive wax treatments
for the full hair growth cycle to adjust.
For best results and to maintain smoother skin, we recommend scheduling your treatments approximately
every 4 weeks.
How long should my hair be?
Hot wax is effective on hair as short as 1mm, while strip wax works best from around 2mm.
Most clients are suitable for hot waxing around one week after shaving, whereas for larger areas such as legs and arms, a three-week gap gives the best results.
If it’s been a while since you last shaved or waxed, that’s absolutely fine — your hair can be safely trimmed to the correct length before treatment.
What types or styles of bikini waxing do you offer?
Basic – Removes hair from the top and sides of the bikini line.
G-string – As above, but taken further inwards and slightly higher.
Brazilian – All hair is removed from underneath and between the buttocks, leaving a personalised landing strip at the front.
Hollywood – Complete hair removal.
Etiquette
To maintain hygiene and protect personal clothing, paper knickers are recommended for most treatments.
For Brazilian and Hollywood waxing, it is preferred not to wear underwear. If you would rather use disposable underwear, that’s no problem — please just allow a little extra time for the treatment.
Can I be waxed if I am pregnant?
Yes, Lycon waxing products are safe to use during pregnancy. They are made with natural ingredients and are gentle on the skin.
If you are pregnant, please let Michelle know during consultation so your treatment can be tailored to ensure maximum comfort.
Will there be any discomfort afterwards?
Discomfort is significantly reduced due to the use of premium wax and expert application techniques.
Following treatment, all residue is carefully removed and gentle aftercare products are applied to soothe and protect the skin.
Unlike traditional strip waxing, the waxing method used for sensitive areas leaves no sticky residue, ensuring a clean and comfortable finish.
Now I’ve been waxed, what next?
Aftercare (within the first 12–24 hours):
- Wear loose clothing to prevent irritation.
- Avoid using perfumed products or deodorant.
- Do not have hot baths or showers.
- Do not sunbathe, use sunbeds or have tanning treatments.
- Avoid touching or scratching the area.
- Avoid sexual activity.
- Do not swim in chlorinated pools.
- Avoid sport, gym sessions or strenuous exercise.
Please note: Some soreness, redness and small bumps can be a common temporary reaction, which should subside within 24-48 hours. This is most likely to occur if it’s your first wax. If you have any queries regarding this, then please call the salon.
