Are there any conditions which mean I won’t be able to have a wax treatment?

If you have any form of contagious skin condition we are unable to wax the affected area until the condition has cleared up. Sunburned, chaffed or broken skin cannot be waxed until it is completely healed. Clients who are taking Accutane will need to delay having a wax treatment until at least six months after completing their medication. Skin that has been treated with steroid creams, Retin-A or any other retinoid acne products cannot be waxed for three months after the course of treatment has been completed.

Why is waxing a better option for men’s hair removal

Skin stays smoother longer when you have unwanted hair removed with waxing by a well-trained therapist. Regrowth is slower and softer, and less irritating than shaving. A smooth body makes your skin look firmer, your muscles more defined.

Why do men really wax?

Most men wax for aesthetic reasons (back/chest waxing), but those having Brazilian waxing do so mainly for hygiene reasons and because it makes them feel cooler and more comfortable.  Some of our clients tell us that the resulting benefits in the love life department isn’t insignificant in their decision to have Brazilian waxing!

We frequently wax cyclists and triathletes who will have full leg and Brazilian waxing not only to make their sport more comfortable, but primarily to make roadside treatment of wounds and grazes easier to clean and dress should they have a fall or collision.

What areas can be waxed?

Waxing is effective on just about any area except the head and beard. Back, shoulders, chest, stomach, ears, nostrils, and especially the intimate area all feel and look better when they are smooth and hair-free. Swimmers and cyclists improve performance by keeping legs hair free. That “unibrow” look can be separated into two distinct brows. Many men overlook the growth on their ears and in their nostrils that are noticeable to others when close-up.

Should I trim or shave my hair first?

No, please don’t. If your hair needs trimming down, we’ll do this for you as part of your treatment, so please don’t attempt this at home. Apart from anything else, you risk taking too much off which could mean we’d be unable to carry out your wax!

Worried that your hair might be too short, on the other hand? The high quality of the wax we use means that we can reach the shorter, finer hairs better than most other waxes. However, we still recommend a minimum of 4 weeks’ regrowth to get the best results. If you have removed the hair via waxing/shaving/tweezing or any other way any less than 4 weeks ago, then please bear in mind that although we may still be able to carry out your wax, you are likely to get some regrowth quite soon after your treatment. We advise that you do not book an appointment if you removed your hair less than 3 weeks ago.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs?

Unfortunately, men’s backs and chests are particularly prone to ingrown hairs. As a general rule of thumb, scrub and rub is our recommendation, in other words exfoliate regularly and apply plenty of moisturiser to the waxed area. This is because ingrown hairs usually occur when the hairs are prevented from growing through thick, dry skin and so they get trapped under the surface. By exfoliating regularly to remove any dead skin, and moisturising daily in order to keep the skin supple, you will minimise the risk of ingrown hairs forming.

Note that ingrown hairs can also be caused by poor therapist technique, whereby the hair is snapped off instead of being pulled out from the root, which could be one reason why you’ve suffered from them in the past.

Products with natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties are especially good for this use.

Some clients do still suffer from ingrown hairs even when they follow our aftercare advice. In this instance, we sell a range of highly-effective specialist ingrown hair solutions which will sort the problem out in no time. These ingrown hair solutions are also great for men who suffer from nasty shaving rashes/bumps around their beardlines.

 

I’ve never been for a male intimate wax before, so I don’t know what to do.

As with every new client, you will have a quick consultation with myself, i will explain about the treatment you have chosen to have.
